• Branches of the internal iliac artery:
• There is a posterior and anterior branch.
• The posterior branch supplies the glutes
• The anterior branches off to form 3 main branches which are: umbilical, obturator,
pudendal

• Levator ani and coccygeal

, • The sacral tubular ligament and the sacral spinal ligament:
• The sacral tubular ligament airs the formation of the lesser sciatic foramen
• The sacral spinal ligament helps to form the greater sciatic foramen

• Pelvic fractures range in severity from mino to major injuries to potentially life
threatening
• The innominate bones and sacrum from a ring which takes considerable force to disrupt
• The bony pelvic ring will most often be disrupted in more than one location
• The rich plexus of veins and arteries int he pelvis may be damaged causing bleeding

Bone boundaries: pubic symphesis, ischiopubic rami and ischial tuberosity
Muscle boundaries: Bulbospongiosus, ischiocaverosus, superficial transverse
