NEURO PATHWAYSDORSAL COLUMN - MEDIAL LEMINISCUS PATHWAY:
- Sensory of vibration and fine touch
- gracile and cuneate nuclei
- decussation at medulla to form internal arcurate fibres
- 3 sets of order neurones
- Synapse at the gracile/cuneate tract at the spinal level, synapse t the medulla in gracile/
cuneate tract and final synapse in the thalamus
SPINOTHALAMIC TRACT
- Sensory of pain and temperature
- Enters the spinal level via the lissauer’s fasciculus in the posterior dorsal horn and then
travel 1-2 spinal levers higher
- Decussation at 1-2 spinal levels higher in the substancia gelantinosa then exit the grey
matter and cross overgoin upwards to the thalamus and then onto the cortex
- There are 3 order neurones/synapses: in the lessauer’s fasciculus the substancia
gelatinosa and the thalamus
