For this report, I will be researching the Health and Safety legislation and regulations.
That College of North West London follows to ensure the health of all staff and students
within the college is safe. I will also be including examples of how CNWL is meeting
these requirements.
o The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999: this regulations is
made for employer to reduce risk for their employees by following the procedures of
this regulations such as risk assessment. CNWL has follow this regulation because
they have around 300 tutors in CNWL and there are 10,500 students, so to keep
them safe from any possible risk and hazards they have to conduct risk assessments.
o Health and Safety at Work Act 1974: this act’s main purpose is to protect people who
are working in the buildings and the other people too such as public. CNWL has to
follow this act to keep their students/staff and the other people who comes in the
college building safe. The college should remain up to date and replace the existing
safety legislation.
o Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992: the purpose of this is to
ensure that the basic needs of employees are met by the employers such as the
facilities and the working environment. CNWL has abide this law because it’s
necessary for student and teachers who are on the college building for 9-10 hours
straight from morning till evening, so they have to use washrooms and eat/drink.
o Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous, Occurrences Regulations 1995: Self-
employed, employer or the anyone with a business are entitled to follow this
regulations as they have to record and report the work related incidents or
accidents that took place. CNWL has 10,800 people inside their premises so they
have the responsibility to keep them safe and if anyone if injured then they have to
report to the health and safety department about the incident.
o Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 1994: This regulations is for
the business working with chemicals with strict guidelines to protect their workers. It’s
commonly known as COSHH. The college has abide this law because they are
handling various types of chemicals while teaching in the science subject.
