LEGAL, ETHICAL AND OPERATIONAL ISSU
AFFECTING RECRUITMENT AND SELECTIO
ALTON TOWERS
Introduction
This PowerPoint will highlight the legal, ethical and operational issues that affect the recruitmen
selection of employees at Alton Towers.

,THE LEGAL ISSUES
Data Protection Act
The Data Protection Act can be highlighted as legislation act that ensures your
personal information is protected and can only be used by companies and business
that have the permission. Alton Towers handle new employees personal information
which includes their name, address and other confidential information so the theme
park will have to ensure that this information does not go into to the hands of other
people who don’t have the authorisation to handle it. They could do this by password
protecting this information so no one except the human resource department could
use it as they are the department who will be recruiting new staff.

,Sex Discrimination Act

The Sex Discrimination Act can be highlighted as legislation that prevents or
reduces sex and gender discrimination and discrimination against who a person
has married. When recruiting new employees Alton Towers should not
discriminate an applicant on the grounds of their marriage or their sex, to do so
would mean that the theme park will be violating the sex discrimination act
which could mean that the it could be fined or even prosecuted.

An example of such a thing happening is that if Alton Towers was to advertise a
job entitling that only men could apply or if at work there was heavy boxes that
needed to be moved and they told a woman to move them instead of a man.
They will have to treat all applicants the same regardless of what their sex is or
whether they are married.

, Age Discrimination Act

The Age Discrimination Act can be highlighted as legislation that prevents or reduces
Age discrimination when someone applies for a job. When recruiting new staff Alton
Towers should not discriminate an applicant due to their age, they shouldn't reduce
his/her pay or limit their benefits or rewards of working at the theme park. If they do this
then the theme park will be in violation off the Age Discriminate Act this could lead to
them getting fined or having to pay compensation to the employee in question.

Another example could be if Alton Towers made a job ad which highlighted they
would only hire young people or if they had a job ad highlighting a job at Alton Towers
at the arcade area and if someone elderly applied but was rejected due to their age
this could be highlighted as violating the age discrimination act because they will be
discriminating against old people.
