international company as it operates in 11 countries across Europe, Asia and North America and its
headquarters is currently located in Welwyn Garden city. Tesco currently sells a range of products
which includes food and beverages supermarket Tesco is a British retailer, which was founded 102
years ago in 1919 by jack Cohen who made, clothing, home appliances and also offers financial
services such as car insurance and loans.

Workforce planning is basically is when a business needs to match the skills, knowledge, and number
of employees to their current and future needs. To work out their needs, they need to review the
number and skills of employees they have now, what they think will happen in the future, and the
number that they will need in the future. In a large organization like Tesco with more than 250
employees, the types of skills required will depend on the industry that they work in.

Tesco’s team makes sure what their needs are from an employee before hiring them. As days go by
Tesco tries to keep their position in the market on the top and this could lead to lots of reasons for
Tesco to recruit more staff and some of the reasons could be:

The rapid growth of Tesco = Tesco’s is growing rapidly day by day for example last year they have a
sales increase of 28% and opened 200 more shops around the UK and worldwide. Therefore, if the
number of customers or sales is increasing then Tesco needs to recruit otherwise Tesco could lead to
not having enough staff members and eventually could suffer from bad customer service.

Staff turnover for Tesco = until now Tesco has 420,092 thousand employees worldwide if we look in
the future there are going to be lots of employees who are going to be retiring or staff could leave
for many different reasons so to replace those staff Tesco needs to hire more people as a backup
plan.

Systems are changing= in the new generation new systems are changing the way we shop and this
new technology saves Tesco a huge amount of money as they don’t have to spend pay wages. One
of the technologies Tesco and other many supermarkets use is self-checkout. but however, the
change of the new system could bring a staff turnover as the staff might think machines are taking
over their work and they might decide to leave the jobs this can put a negative image of Tesco so
Tesco should carry on hiring more employees to save their reputation.

Seasonal fluctuation affects Tesco= as Tesco comes under the retail industry it is very busy during
seasonal occasions like Easter and Christmas and those seasons bring in huge sales for Tesco. Tesco
needs to employ more temporary staff at that time as other regular staff members might have taken
holiday leave and temporary hire is a very cost-effective method for Tesco. Overall Tesco needs to
recruit more employees to meet the demands of the customers otherwise they lose lots of money.

To get through Tesco’s recruitment and selection process they have stages that you have to go
through for you to be successful they are:

, 1. As Tesco is a large organisation, they have created special documents and websites which is
all dedicated to job advertisements and their own career website where all the applications
are sent and then the company receives and reviews.
2. Then Tesco carefully looks at the applications of every single candidate and then selects the
best candidate for the role so they can move into the next stage which is to do online
assessments to test their skills.
3. The last stage is if you are successful in the online test, you then get called either for a
telephone interview or a face-to-face interview and at the end if you succeeded everything
then you will receive your contract by post.

An organization may not be able to manage the process of recruiting themselves because
they are too busy or they feel they do not have suitably qualified staff to run the recruitment
process. They may use job centres or other agencies. Jobcentres are popular places for
employers to advertise vacancies as this is where people go to get advice on different jobs
and benefits. Jobcentres work with employers to provide additional training and support to
local areas so that employees can be found to fill the vacancies. Jobcentres are also able to
offer employers extra training and support so that they can recruit employees. As Tesco is a
very big company not just locally but globally the company has decided to advertise their
jobs on their own career website because they think other jobs centres or agencies might
not have the experience of their work and wouldn’t know what Tesco is looking for in an
employee. But however, in the future, if Tesco does decide to opt for job centres it might
increase more jobs for the local areas which could bring in more profits for the company.
