Section A - BIOL201 Biochemistry (answer all five questions)

absorbed into the bloodstream?

2. Using diagrams, illustrate electron transport through complex III of the
respiratory chain.

3. Write brief notes on the structure and function in metabolism of the co-enzymes
NAD+ and NADP.

4. Briefly describe clinical interventions which may be used to prevent a thrombosis
or remove a pathological clot which has formed.

5. Outline how the enzyme acetyl-CoA carboxylase is regulated during fatty acid
biosynthesis.


Section B - BIOL201 Biochemistry (answer one question only)

6. Using suitable examples, explain how control can be achieved in the metabolic
pathways involved in glucose homeostasis.

7. Discuss how different experimental approaches can be used to study enzyme
structure, activity, mechanism, and regulation.

8. Following tissue damage thrombin is produced but it has a strong positive
feedback effect upon the production of further thrombin molecules. Discuss how
the uncontrolled generation of active thrombin and hence formation of fibrin clots
is prevented.
