Large data set

- Weather data was recorded in 8 locations
- ONLY includes data between May and October.
- UK locations:
Leuchars
Leeming
Heathrow
Hurn
Camborne
- Non-UK locations:
Perth, Australia
Jacksonville, USA
Beijing, China

- Some data is missing for UK data in the first half of May 1987

Missing data for UK locations

- For sunshine, wind speed and gust speed, there are missing data values for the first half of
May 1987. This means that when calculating mean wind speed for May 1987, UK means
may be less accurate than non-UK means as they include less values. It also makes it harder
to compare wind speed for UK and non-UK locations

RECORDED IN ALL 8 LOCATIONS
Temperature

- Mean temperature was recorded between 9am on day and 9am on the next.

- Between 1987 and 2015, mean temperatures increased in all 8 locations APART FROM in
Perth, Australia.

Pressure

- Measured in hectopascals

Rainfall
- Measured in mm (1 mm of rain = 1 litre)
- Mean rainfall was recorded between 9am one day and 9am on the next.

- For UK locations, we sometimes see the amount of rainfall given as ‘tr’ (meaning “trace”)
rather than a number. This is used when the amount of rainfall is between 0 and 0.05mm.
Since it is not given as a number, this means we can’t include them when calculating a mean,
unless we substitute “tr” with a numerical value. This means that the mean, median and IQR
for rainfall in UK locations is less accurate than in non-UK locations.
