Motivation
Extrinsic motivation is reward-driven behaviour. ... In extrinsic motivation, rewards or other incent-
ives — like praise, fame, or money — are used as motivation for specific activities. Unlike intrinsic
motivation, external factors drive this form of motivation. Being paid to do a job is an example of
extrinsic motivation.

Reflection

Being extrinsically motivated means an individual is motivated to complete a task because of an

external factor. There are lots of reasons why you might be extrinsically motivated, like a salary, or

praise, but at the moment, I'm extrinsically motivated to get a degree. The benefits of having a de-

gree are 10-fold, but my main priority is it will help to process my working visa for the country I

currently reside in, China.

Alternatively, “Intrinsic motivation refers to the act of doing something that does not have any ob-

vious external rewards” (Barr, E. 2021, February 2). This is provided by doing completing a task

you enjoy, maybe competing in a sports game or travelling to learn about different cultures. For the

past year or so, I’ve been Intrinsic motivated when I go to the gym. My aim is to bet my previous

records in multiple exercises. I go 3 or 4 times a week and track my progress to watch the im-

provement.

I believe both of these forms of motivation can prove to be successful. As stated above, extrinsically

motivated is an outside form of motivation and Intrinsic motivation can be referred to as a personal

form. Since I'm currently using both forms of motivation in my daily life, I believe it's difficult to

pick a favourite. I think extrinsically motivated goals are more likely to be completed successfully
