• What is a covenant?
• A binding agreement between persons. In a religious context, a sacred agreement between G
and a person or people. It is brought into being with a ceremony (often a sacrifice).
• Eight main covenants in the Bible:
• Edenic Covenant – Gen 1:27-28 (population, subdue, dominion, work)
• Adamic Covenant – Gen 3:14-19 (judgement on man, woman, Satan, death but promise)
• Noahic Covenant – Gen 9:1-17 (re-population, diet, death penalty, no global flooding)
• Abrahamic Covenant – Gen 12:1-7, 13:14-17 (a son, a great nation, being blessed, a blessing -
circumcision)
• Mosaic Covenant (our focus) – Ex 20:1-Deut 28:68 (Law, diet, Sabbath, sacrifices, punishmen
• Land Covenant – Deut 29:1-30:20 (land to the people, their disobedience but in gathering)
