D1 Criteria: Evaluate the success of promoting anti-discriminatory practice for specific individuals
with different needs
Anti-Discriminatory Practice Associated with R
The anti-discriminatory practice method to overcome this I have used for R is access. This will help
motivate R to walk around and become more active. The strengths of this method are that firstly, it
will benefit and provide help for R to access and gain the support needed. Additionally, having access
arrangements improves and Increase independence for R. This will be especially beneficial because R
is quite insecure about arrangements being made for him. He can start to gain confidence and feel
more adjusted. Access arrangements are essential also because R is quite lonely, but he has a couple
of friends, he disconnects himself from social events because he feels that his friend does not want
to see himself like this. Having this independence, R can be more active and feel like he can still
socialize. He will feel included and welcome in places, he already has difficulty adjusting, this will
make it easier. Another strength for r is that because he suffers with mobility problems, he is
supplied with a frame and wheelchair but does not like to use it. He is encouraged and supported by
health care workers to use it, however, most of time it is unsuccessful. Using access arrangements
can be beneficial in this case because of having handrails and conveyer belt. This means that R can
still get around safely and this can benefit him mentally and physically. Having positive mental health
R can be keen on using the arrangements provided for him and have a highly significant impact on his
wellbeing. Lastly, R requires help when going to the toilet but finds this embarrassing, with access
arrangements being arranged he might be able to do certain tasks such as sitting down, and this will
boost his confidence and self-esteem.
However, the weakness of this method for r is that firstly, with R being required with multiple access
arrangements these can be quite expensive so R may not be able to afford this. Another
disadvantage may be that access arrangements may not always be accessible even though he can
only move around in flat grounds but is not always steady, so he needs support in case he falls. Not
having these arrangements can result in R from withdrawing from social events or having no option
but to use equipment he does not feel happy about. Another weakness of this method is that access
arrangements provided can be faulty and may need constant readjusting, this could be unsafe for R
because he currently lives alone and if something faulty happens this could put him at risk, and he
could be badly injured and not be provided with help until supporters come.
Anti-Discriminatory Practice Associated with Jim
The anti-discriminatory practice method to overcome I have used for Jim is also access
arrangements. Jim likes to be independent and tries to do everything for himself. Having these
arrangements allows service users such as Jim to have a sense of independence and feel more
accomplished, whilst getting the support they require. Jim has been provided with grab rails in the
bath. This is beneficial because it can encourage Jim to take baths and wash up after himself,
especially when he is soiled. Furthermore, Jim has been provided with a frame, but sometimes uses
