Potential Impacts of IT and Data-related Security Breaches
The data related security branches can have a serious and sometimes a long term impact on the business
organisations or individuals. A serious data breach can result in one or more serious consequences
which can be classified as three R’s which are Revenue, Reputation and Requirements. I will explain each
of the consequences below.

Revenue

A computer system on which an organisation relies to run some aspect of its business may be a subject
to a security beach that will prevent the business from providing their service which it is designed to
provide the customers and this involves data breaches such as DoS attack and other breaches. The
breaches can have a serious impact on the organisations ability to do their business and these attacks will
damage, destroy or restrict the data held on an organisations computer system. The revenue means the
financial income for an organisation and if an IT system which carries out trading business has been put
out of action due to the security breach then there will be a direct hit to their business revenue on the
account of transactions that is not being able to take place because of the breach. Many companies relies
heavily on the computer system to run their business and se;; their products or services such as the
e-commerce websites and if these kind of security branches are carried out on them then it will leave a
devastating impact on their revenue as the customers cannot purchase during the data breach and they
could lose a very huge sum of money for every hour their website is down or offline. However for a
non-profit organisation whose compromised IT system will not affect their revenue but still they will lose
the data stored in their system which could cause a huge damage to the reputation of the organisation.
An organisation that is compromised through the security breach will have suffered a revenue loss as
they have to carry out certain measure which will include additional capitals and operational costs that
are associated with carrying out the investigations which will help the organisation to find out who is
responsible for or caused the security breach, they have to restore the compromised IT system like how
they were before and with extra security protection in order so that they do not have to face such
crises in the future.
The organisations must have a post-disaster recovery plan laid out within the Security Policy Document
or SPD of the IT system and they must follow up the plan in the sequence that it is laid off in order to
recovery from the loss due to the data breach. The security major will involve organisations thousand of
hours of work, getting specialist contractor, forensic investigators, auditors, retraining the staff, new
infrastructure purchase, restoration of the lost data and retesting or recertification of the IT system
before it is back in action to be be used by the organisation and the customers. The business will suffer
from loss of service, loss of business income and loss of customers record which will result in the
business losing a lot of money because of the less customers interacting with the business therefore to
