Evaluating the recruitment and selection process of a large business
I will talk about Aldi's hiring and selection procedures in this assignment, as well as the importance of
hiring to a company's success. Since Aldi is a private limited company, anyone can't own shares or
dividends in it. When it first opened, it was a German supermarket; today, it is one of the UK's top outlet
stores for discounts. Aldi is now the fourth-largest supermarket in Britain after gaining market share
quickly from 7.7% to 9.3%. Over 155,000 people are employed by them, and they currently have 457
stores in the UK and 6,520 stores worldwide.
The success of the business depends on every choice the company makes. How and why a company
wants to hire people is just one of the many choices that Aldi and other businesses must make. The
"recruitment process" is what is referred to here. Workforce planning is the process of evaluating and
analysing the skills of a company's current workforce in order to match the knowledge, expertise, and
workforce size to the company's present and future needs. In order to serve customers directly, they
would need to be able to lift heavy stock, as well as have strong customer service skills. There are a lot
of reasons as to why businesses decide to recruit staff, such as:
- Job roles are changing: with all the technological advancement that’s currently going, some
roles don’t exist anymore and new roles have been introduced. For example the introduction of
self-service tills have lead to staff that were before serving on the till to stock shelves instead,
this increases sales.
- Internal promotion: when an employee is promoted to a higher position within the company.
This means that there will be a void in the job role. As a result, a new person will need to be
hired to fill that position.
- Staff turnover measures how frequently workers leave a company over a set period of time.
More people must be hired in order to fill these gaps because high staff turnover causes more

career opportunities to arise. A high staff turnover rate is unwanted because it undermines the
stability of the company and gives the company a bad reputation, making it more difficult to find
qualified candidates to fill open positions.
- New offices or branches: Businesses frequently start out small and will need more staff as they
gradually expand their operations.
- The company is expanding: If a company's revenue is rising, more customers are becoming
aware of it. As a result, companies like Aldi will need to increase the size of their operations in
order to satisfy all of their client demand. The business can achieve this by hiring more
employees, which will enable it to meet consumer needs more quickly and consequently
provide high-quality customer service. Workers may be required locally, nationally, or even
worldwide; it all depends on how big the company is and how much it wants to grow. Aldi would
likely hire staff members on an international level if they were to hire because their services run
on a global level
What is the Recruitment process at Aldi ?
There are internal and external forms of advertising. Internal advertising is the simplest and most cost-
effective way to advertise a vacancy because it only needs to be shown to employees who are currently
employed by the organisation. You can post it online, via email, or on the staff notice board. External
advertising promotes the job role outside the company and is usually harder but efficient. Previously,
businesses would advertise job openings externally through media like newspapers, radio, or posters.
However, as the world has changed and technological knowledge rises everyday, these methods are
getting less and less common. Both the use of recruitment agencies and job centres as well as online job
advertising is now very common among businesses.
In order to find the right qualified employees for their job roles, an organisation the same as Aldi must
follow a recruitment process. Aldi HR team will need to conduct a labour market analysis and find out
the vacancies which need to be filled out in the business. They would have to follow certain methods
during the hiring process, such as writing a job description and choosing the system to use to post the
opening. By posting the position on an online job board like Indeed or Totaljobs, unemployed people will
be made aware of it. Businesses that use job boards and don't just advertise internally often select
individuals with higher levels of skill because they aren't just relying on the skill sets of their current
employees. Aldi will inspire applicants more quickly if the job posting is efficient, which also means that
hiring processes take less time and allow for more business growth.
Job analysis: is the method for gathering and analysing information about the characteristics,
requirements, and context of jobs, including their content and required qualifications.
