Divisions of the circulatory system
System and Pulmonary Circulation

The function of the circulatory system

Pump oxygenated blood into the organs

Take deoxygenated blood into the lungs to oxygenate it

Blood vessels are the distribution centre

Arterial vs Venous

Arterial blood vessels carry oxygenated blood

Venous blood vessels deoxygenated blood

Systemic Circulation

Carries blood from left ventricle to distribute blood to the organs and then
carries the deoxygenated blood into the pulmonary system

Pulmonary system pumps deoxygenated blood into the lungs to oxygenate it

Pulmonary Circulation

Blood is pumped from the right ventricle into the pulmonary artery to the lungs
and gets oxygenated

Takes place in a closed loop of vessels that only carries blood between the
heart and lungs

Basics of Cardiac Physiology 1

, Anatomy of the heart

Heart Chambers(Myocardium)

Left and Right Atrium

Left and Right ventricle

Why is the left ventricle more muscular?

Left ventricle is more muscular as it has to pump the blood further(Thicker wall)

Atria of the heart

Receiving chambers

Enters through the right atrium from the superior and inferior vena cava

Blood enters the left atrium from the pulmonary vein

Ventricles

Discharging chambers

Right ventricle pumps blood through the pulmonary artery
