= Cochrane and Paine, the emergence of a global economic and cultural system which is incorporating the people
of the world into a single global society
= Giddens, Can be defined as the intensification of worldwide social relations which can link distant societies in
such a way that local happenings are shaped by events occurring may miles away and vice versa
- Why is the definition of Globalisation problematic ? = Wiseman, term “globalisation’ can be misused and
misunderstood, needs careful consideration when it’s being used.
- 1. Globalisation does not occur at an even pace across the globe
- 2. Globalisation does not always result in cultural homogenisation, it has made individuals come together to
protect their rights and culture such as Tribal people - so they do not become exploited
- Difference meaning in parts of the world / differently seen —> Globalisation as asymmetric
- Foucault, Surveillance is likely to become the most effective means of regulating behaviour and controlling
crime / ‘Internalised Surveillance’
