Dr.Manmohan Singh, the Prime minister of our nation has laid a foundation stone
for the Jawaharlal Nehru Solar Mission programme and chalked out a target of
1000 mw of solar power production for the period 2010-2013 in India. This target
was welcomed by all corners of the public and the press.




As per Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar mission policy, the NTPC Vidhyut
Vyabhar Nigam Ltd (NVVN) has the complete control over the purchase of solar
power and also for the distribution of it to various regions in India. This technical
agency decides from whom the solar energy should be purchased under a contract
agreement of a period of 25 years. It also decides to whom it should be sold and at
what price it should be sold. It will pay the solar power producers directly and
clear all the power bills.

NVVN will purchase solar energy from the producers and sell it to each region at a
rate of Rs 5.50 /unit. As this rate is cheap and economically viable all the States
have shown eagerness to buy it from NVVN.
