resources and prevent another war
1957: Treaty of Rome - created EEC (european economic
community), succesful for free market trading
EFTA (european free trade association) - aka BTEC EEC
1963: Britain rejection to join EEC 1
1967: Britain rejection to join EEC 2
1973: Britain joins EEC under Heath
1975: Referendum (2/3 vote to stay) under Wilson
1984: Thatcher rebate
1986: Single european act - harmonises external tarifs and quotas
to create a single market
Europe Blue Banana= areas in Europe with very high economic growth
1992: Maastritch was the centre of the blue banana - institution of Parliament and
Commission made with laws that all members had to follow, this was problematic and
controversial (ppl worried about sovereignity)
