Write a narrative account analysing the key
events of the end of the Warsaw pact. (End
of cold war/role of Gorbachev)

Gorbachev believed in a policy of “new thinking”.
This was his plan to modernise the Soviet Union
and put an end to the costly arms race, improve
global relations and also bring an end to the cold
war on the long run. He introduced “glasnost”,
this was the freedom of religion and media- it
dramatically reduced censorship. It also allowed
for people to freely express their political views
about communism without the fear of facing
repression from the USSR. He also introduced
“perestroika”, this led to more freedom for
people and allowed people to run their own small
businesses and profit from them. Gorbachev
hoped this would stop the public from disliking
