January need in order to do my practical. as the fluid to find the effect
CONTINGENCY: I researched the types of oil it has with temperature
to see what would be the most effective for
this practical.

26th I researched methods that i could possibly I have researched and
January use for the practical section of the project written a possible method
proposal and have written a precise method for my practical
which i have adapted for my practical

27th I researched the different components of a I have knowledge of what to
January risk assessment and complete a risk write in my risk assessment
assessment based on the equipment i need to and have completed a risk
use for my experiment assessment for my
experiment

30th I ordered the marbles that i would use in the The reason I chose to use a
January practical and i also ordered plasticine just in marble was because it's
case the marbles are too heavy easy to find, it's not
expensive and is in the
same shape.

6th Planned to undertake preliminary practical I completed the first

plan just in case this first one doesn't work experiment and collected
the data

Ethics
The oil could be unsustainable and unethical as the source of the oil or the way it was
produced they may not agree with it. I have done research to make sure this isn't a problem
and to double check the labels that could potentially cause issues.

Procedure:
The viscosity of a liquid can be measured using a viscometer. In our case we will keep the oil the
same but change the temperature and we will measure the viscosity of the liquid by dropping a small
sphere/object into the liquid from the top. After falling sufficiently, the spheres acquire terminal
velocity.

Variables:
The independent variable in the variable that is changed during a process of a practical
experiment. The independent variables in my practical include: the change in temperature
and the viscosity of the fluid. Dependent variables are items which are observed or
measured during the process of a practical experiment. The dependent variable in my
practical experiment is the time taken for the object to reach the bottom of the test tubes.
Control variables are the items which are kept the am or constant for the duration of a
practical experiment. The control variables in my practical experiment include: the type of
fluid that is used; the volume of the fluid used; the objects- the same marble/objects are
used throughout my experiment.

Preliminary method
First, measure the weight of each ball bearing/marble using a digital weighing balance,
making sure to record the values in a table. Secondly, mark the test tubes at a specific part
of the test tube using a marker. Then prepare the water bath as they take a while to heat up.
After this you should pour the vegetable oil into the test tubes making sure each test tube
has the same amount of oil in them. After that place a test tube in the fridge and leave it
there for 15 minutes. After that you will take the test tube place the test tube in the water
bath until it reaches 25°c, note it down and place it in a test tube rack after this get a marbel
and start the timer once you have dropped the marbel and it reaches the bottom that's when
you should stop the timer. You would repeat these steps for the following temperatures,
40°C, 55°C and 70°C.
