Unit 2 – P4 - Describe the Influences on Parliament

Unit 2- P4- describe the influences on Parliament
M2- analyse the influences on Parliament

Introduction

This assignment focuses on the organisations that endeavour to influence parliament through
different methods. These include: Law Commission, Royal Commissions, political power, media
and pressure groups. More importantly, we have to comprehend how these organisations
influence parliament and even other countries which also enable us to understand the
significance of them. Moreover, I have incorporated many examples of what these
organisations achieved. Throughout this assignment, there are crucial distinctions between the
way that each of these organisations tries to influence parliament and my main focus is to
provide adequate examples which contribute to the understanding of the role of these
elements within the country.

Law Commission

The law commission is an independent body that endeavours to assure that law is fair, cost-
effective, and modern and is in a simple form. They also conduct research and deliver
consultations in order to establish systematic recommendations for consideration by
parliament. Thirdly, they have the aim to codify the law, not allowing any anomalies to occur as
well as trying to reduce the number of separate statues. In order to illustrate what the law
commission does, I’m going to include some projects which they put forward.

1) Administrative Redress: Public Bodies and the Citizen
On 26 May 2010, they published a report document in relation to Public Bodies and the Citizen.
The document demonstrates an overview of the duties they carry in which states the liability
aspects of the administrative Redress project. They also conducted research in regard to public
law scheme which later on was drew on applications for judicial review before the
administrative court in 2007. The project was successfully implemented as it was carried
through the stages of Initiation, Pre-consultation, Consultation, Policy development and report.
Adult Social Care
The care act 2014 received the Royal assent on 14 May 2014. The project was concerned with
reviewing the law regarding to the provision of adult social care in England and Wales. The
fundamental aim was to provide a clear, modern and more cohesive plan for adult social care.
The project therefore was successful in changing the law as it was approved and was signed by
the queen.
