, Insight to Tesco PLC

Tesco PLC is one of the largest British multinational retailers of groceries and
general merchandise in the UK, with more 450,000 staff members worldwide,
more than 6,700 stores, and 80million customers internationally.

Tesco was originally established in 1919 in the East of London by
Jack Cohen who got struck with an idea to launch a grocery chain
just after having resigning from the Royal Flying Corp (The Air Arm
of the British Army before and during WWI) as the dawn of the
Great war (World War I). Jack utilized his money to purchase
surplus groceries and sell them from a market stall located in East
London.

Step by step…

After the Great war in 1919, 21-year-old Jack received.
£30 for his commitment of efforts and service during
the Great War (approximately worth £1,830.72 in the
year 1919 – an upsurge of £1800.72 in 103 years) and
later used those funds to purchase left-over groceries
and opened a small market in East London. On the first
ever day as selling surplus groceries, jack had turned
over £4 and had also made £1 in profit. Jack instantly
realised that selling groceries was a good business for
him and that he had the mind for it.
