UNIT 11
P1 Outline the principles of system analysis
Descriptons of diferent system development technologies
There are development lifecycle models with many stages and processes needed to make a
project. There are a variety of diferent lifecycle models. Diferent types of development
lifecycle models have diferent enefts and draw acks.
The waterfall cycle
Has many steps within the model. It has a precise o jectves for diferent development steps.
The waterfall cycle does not allow a task to e skipped within the cycle. The various steps of the
waterfall diagram include: Conceptonn imitatonn designn analysisn constructonn testngn
implantatonn and maintenance.
When one step of the model has een accomplished it will move to the next. For example when
design is fnished it will move onto analysis. If a step has not een completedn then the cycle will
e una le to carry on.
The waterfall model lets a system analyst to fnd issues with the system and allow the system
analyst to make changes to the system to make the system work. If using the waterfall modeln it
will e difcult to leave out things in early stages due to the planning process is accurate.
The waterfall cycle will not allow a system analyst to go ack to an earlier stage. Therefore if
changes are required to the systemn it can e extremely difcult to go ackwards and carry out
the changes.
The waterfall cycle is used as a development plan for an organisaton or usiness to pursue the
various stages efore creatng the product for the customers. Firstlyn the requirement
specifcaton to see what customers would want from the system. The system would then need
to e designed.
After the design has een completedn the design would e tested. After this the system would
then e installed and maintainedn and the waterfall cycle would repeat itself with the stages:
requirementsn specifcatonn designn constructon and maintenance.
Spiral life cycle
A spiral life cycle is usually used for development projects which are longer. The stages are
usually used when a the client wants newer technology using an old system. The spiral life cycle
fuses features from the waterfall cyclen with additonal featuresn for example prototypes. The
