This is the seventh and last TEFL Level 5 Assignment about teaching IELTS. It focuses on the 4 language skills: Speaking, Listening, Reading and writing. It includes a lesson plan as well as an essay discussing why the lesson plan is structured as it is.
Analyse the information in the class summary. What are your learners’ strengths and weaknesses?
(max. 100 words)
According to the information in the class summary, the student’s greatest strength is reading, achieving band scores of 7.
The students seem to be doing well in writing as well, however it could be improved. However, their biggest problem areas
are in listening and speaking. The majority of the students had band scores below 6 for listening and for speaking, making
these skills their weaknesses.
Which two skills have you chosen to teach in this lesson? Why? (Minimum 150 words)
As a result of the analyzation of the class summary, I have chosen to teach listening and speaking skills as these skills
raised concern and need to be prioritized. Half of the students have band scores below 6(Ana, Delphine and Francesca) for
listening skills and half of the students have band scores below 6(Chen, Delphine and Francesca) for speaking skills, making
it apparent that these skills need to be worked on. Their band scores for writing skills are slightly higher than that of the
listening and speaking so I have decided to not have it as the focus of the lesson.

Which lesson topic have you chosen? Why? (Minimum 100 words)
I have chosen to have the topic ‘work’. I have chosen this topic because it relates to the students one way or another. Majority
of the students are improving their English in order to get a job. Ana wants to become a nurse and Delphine and Francesca
wants to improve job prospects. Bilal and Mihai want to study in America and in the UK which could lead to job opportunities
and it is unclear why Chen wants to move to Australia, but this topic will be beneficial for him regardless.
