Criminology homework
1. Why family relationships may affect offending behaviour.
Family relationships may have an impact on behaviour through the
process of learning and socialisation. Especially Younger people such
as adolescents and children. Its viewed that many young children learn
from their parents/caretakers through the usage of reward systems, this
can be supported by the bobo doll experiment, a group of children were
shown a bobo doll in which there was different groups which would see
multiple interactions and reactions from the bobo doll, this includes the
bobo doll being punched, hit, kicked and even shouted degrading
language to, this behaviour was then rewarded with praise and
rewarding advantages, this was then proven that the children who
viewed this then followed and proceeded to hit the bobo doll, whilst the
children who didn't see this behaviour towards the doll but rather saw
more kind and less aggressive behaviour tended to act more kindley to
the doll, this then further supported the social learning theory, many
people learn their behaviours from their families and those who
surround them,so if in this instance a family look highly down on crime
and are strong disciplinarians, this leads to the child being at a lesser
risk of acting on deviant and criminal behaviour.
