Explain appropriate methods of prevention and
control for a named communicable and named
non-communicable disease.

In this essay I am going to discuss one type of communicable disease and one type
of non-communicable disease, and methods of preventing/ controlling these
diseases.

A communicable disease is a type of disease that is able to be spread from one
person to another by any means, such as blood, salvia, human contact and through
the air. The communicable disease that I am going to discuss is chlamydia.
Chlamydia is a type of STD (i.e. sexually transmitted disease) that is passed on
through sex and oral sex, and it is a form of STD that can be easily tested and easily
treated orally.

Because chlamydia is contracted sexually, the only way you can prevent chlamydia
fully is abstinence or alternatively one form of contraception (e.g. condoms so one
way that the government is prevent chlamydia from being spread around is by
offering free condoms out at any local sexual clinic as well as GP's so that more
people are using condoms and not spreading the disease about. Another way
chlamydia is being prevented is providing education on sexual health in schools and
colleges so teenagers in particular (because they are one of the most likely to catch
the disease) know exactly what they need to do to prevent catching chlamydia, as
well as being made aware on what to do if they have caught the STD. One way that
chlamydia is being controlled is by providing free treatment to those who have
contracted chlamydia to help them eliminate it. This consists of a series of antibiotics
and creams to take on a daily basis usually. This means that more people are able to
get rid of chlamydia without the worry of not being able to afford it, so less and less
people carry the disease and pass it on. Because the treatment is free on the NHS, it
is believed to encourage more people to get tested for the disease because if they
do have it then the treatment is free. Another way that chlamydia is being controlled
is by providing the general public with free sexual health checks so that both male
and females are being tested for any STD's including chlamydia. This helps control
chlamydia because it means that more people will be aware if they have caught it or
not instead of sleeping with lots of other people and spreading the disease without
them realising.

The non-communicable disease I am going to discuss is coronary heart disease.
Coronary heart disease is when the blood being passed through our heart consists
