P2 - Assess own knowledge, skills, practice, values, beliefs and career aspirations at start of the
programme.
In this assignment I will be talking about my own personal development which will potentially assess
my knowledge, skills, practice, values beliefs and career aspirations at the beginning of the program.
Knowledge:
I feel as though knowledge plays an important part in how I am able to develop further in the sense
that I believe that I have a limited amount of knowledge in relation to what I have obtained and have
achieved. When looking at the original definition of knowledge is ‘understanding of or information
about a subject that you get by experience or study, either known by one person or by people
generally’ (Dictionary, 2017). More over when talking about knowledge it could interlink with the
subjects I have initially studied during my secondary years or something such as a hobby or an active
activity that I have taken up out of my own interest or taking part in things such as work experience
and voluntary work as well as passes life experienced could expand a my knowledge as would have
learned how to tackle a situation if it ever occurred again but this could also be a weakness as it
could hinder how I make decision but if I didn’t have at least a basic knowledge it could cause me to
have lack of skill.
I believe a large portion of my knowledge about this course was gained from my mother in terms of
understanding what I consist of and the consistency you should maintain in relation to the quality of
the course work. My mum had told me a incite on where she did her placement to which she did her
placement in whips cross hospital so from that I was able to have knowledge of the requirement and
demands you would have to keep up with to ensure the work was carried out correctly. I was also
fully aware of the amount of units I would have to complete which was 12 units as well as I would
have to reference my work correctly as if I didn’t I could cause me to have a high turn it in leading me
to initially get capped at a pass which gave me a huge heads up on how to initially structure my work
but my weakness would be the lack of detailed research and grammatical and spelling errors so to
improve my knowledge and also prevent my weaknesses from getting in the way of my knowledge
after all assignments that I give in but also trying to do a large portion of research ensuring I go in to
a detail as well as proof reading my work before handing it in so that it is at the standard of an A
level student as a Level 3 is equivalent to an A level.
Skills:
I feel as though there is a variety of skills that I have taken up over the years but also developed on to
which I feel as though skills are important as you need then to learn how to approach different things
and situations. When looking at the definition of skills it is when ‘the ability, coming from one's
knowledge, practice, aptitude, etc., to do something well ‘(Dictionary.com, 2017). When talking
about the skills I have I feel as though I have largely developed on my communication as I feel like I
am able to communicate with other people effectively in terms of delivering and taking in positive
information and showing clear accurate communication information however I feel as though I have
the weakness when talking about my communication as I have been given criticism to which if I
wasn’t going to improve on this criticism it would be an ongoing problem in the future. When talking
about my technical skills it is ‘are the knowledge and abilities needed to accomplish mathematical,
engineering, scientific or computer-related duties, as well as other specific tasks relating to
technology.’ (Staff, 2017). In relation to health and social care I have realised that ICT skills are very
important as now things have now moved from recording on paper to recording data on a online
