P5: Reflect on own personal and professional development

In this assignment I will be reflecting on my personal development, my name is Kenisha
Farrell and I was based at Chingford primary school which was a pre-school. I was based in
a room with children from about 1-3, I didn’t really enjoy my placement but it gave me the
idea that working with children at that age isn’t something that I am looking to do in the future
but on the other hand I did learn a few things as how to create a bond with a child enabling
them to trust me as well as feeding a child and ways to go about certain situations.

Professional Develop:

I believe that u gave a professionally developed when working with at Chingford primary
school as I believe that my knowledge had widened and it had made me understand the
world of work better. When working there I was able to understand why children should have
a set pattern of the day that they get use to over a period of time and understand if aren’t
use to this then it would cause them to be moody throughout the day. I also have to meet
their needs of attention as their would sometimes be in a classroom with about 10 children
between 1-3 they all demand a certain amount of attention that I would have to meet for
instance when they are doing a drawing activity they would all come and show me what they
have done and I would have to ask questions such as ‘’ what’s that?’’ or give them word of
encouragement such as ‘’ that’s nice’’ or ‘’ that beautiful’’. Although at one point I did make
some mistakes, one mistake that I made is when I first started at the early days of working at
the nursery I opened the door not knowing that there was a person that was allocated to do
so which I then got in trouble as it could have been anyone and I opened the door. I then
asked to ask about if there was other things I should know so I can avoid this confrontation
again and they told me that if there is someone at the door that I should notify the person
that was in the kitchen which was in charge of opening the door. Furthermore I was able to
develop that sense of confidence to read aloud in front of people as I wasn’t so confident in
doing so when reading a story to the children however I did practice with in my GCSE
lessons as we was made to read aloud and realised that I was evidently getting better as I
was more fluent. I also gained the skill of interacting with the children better than I did before
in terms of excaudate some of my actions so they remain attentive when doing circle time
and also engaging in the activity so that they don’t get bored as quickly. Lastly I have come
to the conclusion that I was able to develop professionally and know how to approach
situations and also how to talk to patients when they are going through so problems.
