Developing teams in a business
For my task I am going to be discussing the different roles that exist within McDonald’s.
McDonald’s is a fast food restaurant that offers their many customers a wide variety of
different meal options at a cheap and reasonable price, so that everyone can afford it. Their
main aim is to make large profit and to be a dominating presence within the food market, in
2014 alone their revenue came to $27.4 billion (£20.7 billion) and within their 34,000 stores
they have in their employ over 1.8 million employees. They don’t have a specific target
audience as they stride at providing their food to all people of all ages and adapt to meet
that criteria where necessary for example when it comes to the younger ages they offer a
specialised children’s meal that comes with a free toy, as to act as a means of incentivising
parents to buy it and to make to children to want it. Furthermore, their larger portioned
BigMac is more for older people as due to its size, and the chicken nuggets being only £5 for
a box of 20 making it ideal for teenagers due to its affordable price.
Within the business McDonald’s has a number of teams in their service and within these
teams the members have a variety of roles to perform on a day-to-to-day basis. This ranges
from the kitchen team producing and preparing the food, those on the tills taking and
delivering orders, collecting the customer’s money and dealing with customer’s who has any
issues and the drive-thru team with the same responsibilities as those who are on the till.
There is also those who work on the delivery team, their duties is to pack away all of the
products in the correct areas when the store gets a fresh delivery of supplies, this is an
essential role for an employee to have as it ensures that all of their stock has been checked
off and is in the right place, so when it comes to actually making the food the kitchen has
everything they need, if this wasn’t a role for an employee to have, then none of their
products would be made. The simplest and easiest role within the team is that of the drive-
thru operator, who is responsible for taking the money from the customer, as their role is
limited to taking money and giving the correct amount of change to the customer. In
addition when the drive-thru isn’t particularly busy, those who work on it are tasked with
cleaning the mess that has been produced in the sink, and since there is a lot of food
involved this can be a long and messy process
Also, another role that needs to be performed is by the presenter, they are the team worker
as they are the ones who complete jobs for the team, and their job is that of delivering the
food to the customer that they have ordered through the drive-thru, this is an important job
for them to perform with efficiency, due to the fact that most of the time customers end up
complaining because they feel as though their food isn’t being served as quickly as they
want, another reason behind the roles of in the drive-thru being important is because it is
one of the main focal points for McDonald’s because of its efficiency for those on-the-go.
Also, there are some employees who has the role of runner, they are tasked with running
the food out to the customers in the drive-thru who are parked up waiting for the food to be
prepared, this is an important job for them to have as they are the ones who are tasked with
running out to the customer and giving them their food quickly and efficiently. There is also
a role given to an employee who works in the lobby area, and their responsibility is that of
