nit 6-work experience in health in social care
P1: Explain how work experience can support the development of own professional skills and
personal attributes for work in the health and social.
skills
Communication is the process of passing along knowledge, ideas, or emotions from one individual
or group to another. It takes clarity and accuracy to communicate effectively on both ends. It
includes both verbal and nonverbal communication, including speaking, listening, writing, and body
language. Everyone must be on the same page regarding patient needs, treatment plans, and
progress if effective communication is to take place with coworkers and service users. Better patient
care and results are the result of this. I can use effective communication during my work experience
by talking and understanding the children and the teachers. When doing my work placement in a
nursery I will be patient with the children because they will take a longer time to understand their
work and what to do next.
To use time as effectively as possible, one must practise time management, which involves
organising and prioritising tasks and activities. It entails establishing priorities, making plans, and
setting certain blocks of time for various tasks. A person's productivity, ability to meet deadlines,
stress level, and ability to maintain a healthy work-life balance are all improved by effective time
management. Your ability to manage your time effectively can help you give care on time and cut
down on patient wait times. Effective time management ensures that resources like employees and
equipment are used to their fullest potential, minimising waste, and optimising resource allocation. I
can use time management during my work experience by making sure that I come in early to help
take the children up to their classroom and helping them settle down.
The capacity to effectively order and manage resources, tasks, and information is referred to as
having organisational skills. It involves creating organised methods to monitor data, resources, and
duties. People that are organised are better able to manage their time, avoid mess, and make fewer
mistakes. Being organised makes it easier to keep correct patient records, monitor medication
schedules, and manage appointments effectively, all of which assist staff and patients save time. I
can organise the children work and make sure that their doing their work and help the teacher out
by making sure the classroom is tidy, so it does not cause any accidents.
A group of people working together to achieve a common goal is known as teamwork. It calls for
good collaboration, communication, and the capacity to get along well with others. To ensure the
success of the team, each member brings their talents, expertise, and viewpoints. A healthcare
team's shared accountability and collaborative decision-making can assist detect and reduce
potential hazards in patient care. I can use teamwork skill in my work experience by putting children
into groups and see how they work as a group and how they participate with each other.
Attributes
Genuine care for another person's welfare and happiness is referred to as caring. It involves a sense
of accountability as well as a desire to support and help others. I cared for my mother when she had
surgery in the hospital, I made sure she took all her medication and ate food and drank water.
Genuine concern for the welfare of the people you are caring for is what it means to be caring.
Knowing that they are in the hands of someone who cares about their health and happiness might
help service users feel trusted and secure. It can be emotionally pleasant and rewarding to show
, care. Knowing that you are improving someone's life might increase your work satisfaction and
motivation as a career. I can use this attribute in my work placement by making small talk with them,
asking them how their day was.
When someone is hurting or in distress, compassion is a strong, honest emotion of empathy and
sympathy. It entails a wish to lessen their discomfort or suffering. An example of this is when I see a
homeless person on the street and feel bad for them, so I give them change. This is an act of
kindness and a good feeling to have when helping the less fortunate. Compassion entails having an
intense sense of empathy for another person's suffering and expressing that empathy. This can
promote the emotional health of service users by making them feel appreciated, respected, and
supported during trying times. Compassionate behaviour can result in a sense of purpose and a
closer relationship with clients. By encouraging a sense of fulfilment and significance in your work, it
can also lower symptoms of burnout and emotional tiredness. I can use this during my placement by
letting them know that there are consequences to their action when doing something that they are
not meant to do.
The capacity for understanding and experiencing another person's feelings is known as empathy. It
includes adopting a unique perspective and going through someone else's emotions. An example of
this is when I comfort my friend in times of difficulties and make sure that I am here for her.
Understanding and identifying with another person's emotions is a necessary component of
empathy. By doing so, you can enhance the quality of the care given by better comprehending the
service users' viewpoint and adjusting your treatment to suit their demands. Your ability to
communicate successfully can be improved by having empathy since it makes it more likely that you
will actively listen to and address the needs of service users. Additionally, it might help you establish
a rapport and earn their trust. When doing my placement, I can provide comfort to the children in
the nursery when letting them talk about their feelings.
Patience is the capacity to maintain composure and composure in the face of delays, challenges, or
frustrations without becoming alarmed or irritated. It calls for patience and a long-term outlook.
People may have diverse needs and talents; patience is essential in the social and health care setting.
By giving care at the service user's pace, you can lessen their tension and anxiety. You can better
handle the difficulties and annoyances that may come up in your job if you have patience. As service
consumers are more likely to react favourably to patient carers, it may result in a more positive and
encouraging work atmosphere. I can use patient during my work experience when understanding
children and let them work at their own pace.
I can develop my organisational skills and communication abilities during my work experience. By
positioning the seats and placing the students' books on the table so they are ready to study, I may
assist the instructor in setting up the classroom. Planning is yet another talent you might pick up
while on placement. The classes and the remainder of the day's activities can be planned by the
teacher with my assistance.
P2: Discuss ways in which work experience can inform own career choices and help prepare for
employment in the health and social care sector.
My chosen carer is to be a primary teacher. Work experience can help us to choose the right career
by allowing us to see what it is like to work in any field for example me having experience working in
a primary school. I can also learn new skills that is needed for working in a primary school, one skill
could be organisation skills. This can help me when working in a primary school and outside of
school because I can learn how to organise my work and my schoolwork. Sometimes, your
