Why had York triumphed by 1460?

Increased nobles’ sympathy for York and alienated nobles from her own
cause.

Criticised for not taking action when York was in Ireland acting as if he
ruled the area.
Earl of Wiltshire was made lieutenant of Ireland in December 1459, and
nothing was being done to enable him to take up his post in replacing
York.
Allowed York to lick his wounds and plot his return to England again.
Warwick

Crucial in transforming Yorkists fortune in 1460.
He was the Captain of Calais and replaced Somerset before the ludford
bridge battle, somerset tried to take it back but failed.
Warwick was kept informed of somersets actions by people in Kent and
was made aware that a large fleet of ships were being made to attack
Calais.
Warwick captured fleet and took it to Calais.
He then went for 2 months to Ireland to confer with York, the
Lancastrians could have taken Calais, but they lacked the money and
strength so when Warwick returned everything was okay.
Next move was to begin Yorkist invasion by capturing the town of
sandwich in June 1460.
Warwick got Yorkists in a strong position and gained more supporters
they were ready to meet Lancastrians once more in battle.
Battle of Northampton 10 July 1460
Yorkists reached Northampton on the 10th of July 1460 led by march and
Warwick.
Attempted to negotiate with Lancastrians but Buckingham rejected.
Yorkists triumphed as heavy rain made Lancastrians gun failed to fire
Lord grey of Ruthin (a Lancastrian) defected to the Yorkists side secretly
Warwick knew this and told his men no to fire to those wearing a grey
badge.
