M2, D1 – Explain the Role of the organisational
procedures in the prevention and control of infection in
a health or social care setting and asses how the
suggested measures to manage an outbreak of infection
meet legal requirements and guidelines for the
prevention and control in a health or social care setting:
It is important the individuals working the nursery schools have the
understanding of how the infections and diseases spread. In order to be able to
protect the children in the nursery school, it is important to know what to do
which could stop the spread of infections and diferent diseases. For those who
are unaware of the consequences and how to prevent infections, they have to be
educated.
The most common ways of the individual getting sick is through coughs and
sneezes as the bacteria and virus cells are able to travel from the body of the
infected person into the air and onto the surface of other individuals around the
infected person. It is extremely important that the individual who coughs or
sneezes receives some kind of medication prescribed from their doctor to
prevent the individual getting sick even further. It is important to inform the
children in the nursery schools about the basic things which they could do to
avoid getting sick or avoid making others sick. For example, when a child gets
sick, they would usually have a runny nose. The most efcient way of protecting
other people is by making sure that the individual who is sick uses a tissue to
sneeze into and also receives some kind of medication to reduce the mucus
collected in their nose. The same the individual must do with the coughs. This
would prevent the bacteria and virus from spreading around which reduces the
chances of others getting sick. It is also important to educate children in nursery
schools about the importance of washing their hands to stop the germs from
spreading. It is important to do that in order to prevent the spread of microbes
and also other children inhaling or accidentally eating the microbes.
In order to educate children in the nursery schools, the teachers could place
posters above the sinks and the classrooms to remind children to wash their
hands. These could be things like images of washing hands or in fact teachers
could use pictures of ‘cartoon’ like microbes to imitate the microbes and make
the children think about their hygiene. For those who are in Year 5, they have a
nurse come into their class and deliver personal hygiene classes. This could
teach them how to be healthy and clean without in a fun way through diferent
activities carried out by the nurse and the tutors. This will make the children
more engaged and willing to learn and actually look after their hygiene more
efciently. Having the school nurse dealing with all of the ‘sickness’ related
issues could also help due to the experience and the knowledge of the
importance in hygiene.
