Culture: a broad concept which encompasses the norms, values, customs,
traditions, habits, skills and beliefs within a group of People
Norms are the shared expectations of behaviour in a specific culture
If values are abstract rules shared within a culture, norms are the behaviours
people within that culture are expected to exhibit
Types of norms:
Folkways → socially approved behaviour without moral significance
mores → norms of morality, often based on religion
Taboo → widely prohibited + Forbidden within a culture
Laws → formal rules enacted by the state, most taboos are enacted into law
