History of Hollywood CinemaDefinitions
Stereoscope – is a device for viewing a stereoscopic pair of separate images from the same
scene, as a single three-dimensional image.
Zoetrope – is one of several pre-film animation devices that produce the illusion of motion
by displaying a sequence of drawings or photographs showing progressive phases of motion.
Kinetoscope – is an early motion picture exhibition device. It was designed for films to be
viewed by one individual at a time through a peephole viewer window at the top of the
device.
Cinematographe – invented in 1895. It was the first motion-picture apparatus, used as both
camera and projector. The invention of Louis & Auguste Lumiere, manufacturers of
photographic materials.
