Assignment 2 re-submission
Throughout this report I will discuss the factors that should be considered when animating
for web-browser & platform compatibility and file size.

Compatibility
Web browsers
There is a large variety of available browsers for internet users to choose from; not only do
they have the option of different browsers but also people tend to have installed different
versions of the same browser – as some people may not see why they should have to install
the latest browser. Due to the issue of having to comply with all the different requirements
[according to the individual browsers and the varying versions] animators cannot simply
upload a single file online which can universally be used. Rather the animation will have to
be altered according to the different browsers and browser versions. This can be very
inconvenient and insignificant at times as not many people will want to view the animation.
Rather than spending many hours uploading the animation to all the different browsers
animators tend to use the most popular browsers of that time.
Alternatively you may use a plug-in to account for the different browser versions, an
example being Adobe Flash, if the animator has uploaded a Flash file the people with Adobe
Flash will be able to view the animation [so long as the version of Adobe Flash used by the
end-user is adequate to play the file].
Platforms
There is a massive variety platforms that can be used by internet users - in terms of both
hardware and software. For example some people may use Macs software while others
Windows. Some people will go online via their computer and others will go online via their
phone. Animators will need to account for the varying factors.
Animators usually identify where the majority lies and ensure their animation is compatible
- with regards to the operating systems. Animators will generally ensure it is compatible
with both Windows OS and Macs OS.

As for the different hardware platforms the animators will ensure the most popular devices
have been accounted for. For example monitors can be set at varying resolutions and the
animation cannot assume what the majority will be using, therefore the animator should
use the most popular resolution [at the time], this will influence the animator’s decisions on
factors such as the size of stage [the area used when creating/presenting the animation].
Animators will need to consider that the majority of internet users now use their phones
and tablets to get online, upon this knowledge the animators must ensure their animation is
compatible on the various devices.
File size
The file size will need to be considered when creating an animation. If your animations file
size is noticeably large the file may not be able to attach to an email [as there is a maximum
