natural sciences
Natural scientists and Artists show importance to both what can be explained and
cannot be explained. Natural scientists show more importance to the explainable, as
it allows further advancements due to new discoveries that are proven and well-
supported by the scientific explanation. Without the unexplainable there wouldn’t be
any discoveries as they aim to explain the unexplainable through scientific means
with supporting evidence. Artist show more importance to what cannot be explained,
since they can explain themselves through art as a method, but artist still explain
what can be explained through different depictions and interpretations. In this essay,
the word “explained” will indicate the detailed reasoning while “importance” as
something of greater value or significance. For this essay aims to explore by
referring to Arts and Natural sciences whether what can or cannot be explained has
more importance to artist or natural scientists, because natural scientists use
scientific means to explain the unexplainable, while artists use imagination and
human emotions.
Artist undergo the creative process of creating a piece of work to explore and
express their reality and experiences through imagination and emotions. Artists tend
to hold different opinions and aims to share with the audience. However, the
audience may interpret the art piece differently, a completely different perception and
concept than what was intended and it may still be consider as a true or vaild
interpretation, which is what makes art so unique. Religious art focuses on
metaphoric claims about the world and the religion, this art form tends to be lost due
to its subjective nature and every person’s interpretation tends to be different and is

, highly influenced by their culture and background. In western culture, the artist
Raphael in 1516-20 created a biblical art piece titled “The Transfiguration” depicting
Jesus and his disciple going to a secluded place, so then Jesus could show
evidence of his divinity, where his appearance was radiantly transformed into a
dazzling whiter clothes then he had on before(Museivaticani.va, 2023). Being an
atheists, I interpreted Raphael’s art piece differently, as the upper part of Raphael’s
piece as intended while the lower part, as people asking or begging for Jesus’s help.
While Raphael depiction is accurate based on the time it was painted, Carl Bloch
who also created The Transfiguration in 1820, somewhat illustrated the same
message as Rafael did on Jesus’ transformation and evidence of divinity, but Bloch’s
painting had a different lower half in comparison to Raphael’s painting. We can
assume that due to the time difference, 300 year and the changes made to the Bible
during that time had influenced the explanation of this painting and the way it is
interpreted, as metaphorical claims are too vague to explain, allowing people depict
and interpretate religion differently based on their beliefs, even if they're to share the
same religion. This portrays that even though artist create pieces of art that is
unexplainable it is still important to them, as art is a powerful method that activates
the creative process of creating a piece of work to explore and express reality and
experiences through imagination and emotions of what is unexplainable.
Music is another powerful method in which artist use harmony, and expression of
emotions to express creativity, experiences and explain the unexplainable, human
emotions, as it is left up to interpretation. This raises the statement “music is able to
explain human feelings better than any other discipline can explain”, since a
scientific method would not be able to convey how it can actually feel to have
depression, be heartbroken or have anxiety. Through music artists can explain their
