Unit 22
Research Method

Why Is There A Rise In Mental Illness Amongst
Young People In The UK?

Unit 22 is going to an evidence based assignment. It aims to develop an
understanding of research in health and social care and the impacts and
ethical issues relating to it. I must be able to research methodologies and use
them to plan and conduct my own research relating to health and social care
and finally evaluate the success of the outcomes.

Explain the function of research in health and social care (P1)
In this part of my assignment I am going to clarify the function of research in
relation to health and social care. I will then proceed to explain these
individual functions in advanced details. To begin with the word research
means “the systematic investigation into and study of materials and sources
in order to establish facts and reach new conclusions” (Google Dictionary,
2017) in other words, research means to gather resources to establish facts
and reach a decision.
Research to identify needs
In health and social care identifying needs is about using research ethics to
identify the needs of individuals. For example, a care worker may observe a
service user only to conclude this individual may need additional assistance
