New Gag for an Old Goose- Religious pamphlet, stressed Catholic origins of CofE, denied it was Calvinist.

complaints about Puritans not allowing this.
Spanish Match- Proposed marriage between Charles and Spanish Infanta, Maria Anna. Failed, lasted 4
years (talks). Talks= very one sided to benefiting Spain. Some saw it as a threat to Protestantism.
Directions to Preachers- Gave declaration forbidding anyone below the rank of bishop from delivering
sermons on controversial religious issues.
Game at Chess- Play by Thomas Middleton. Comical and satirical. Form of Chess Match represents
Spanish Match. Shut down after 9 days.
Commons Protestation- 1621. The House of Commons reaffirms freedom of speech, but James believed
Parliament had no right to discuss Foreign Policy. James tore up.
