D1 - Evaluate the requirements of healthcare workers in relaton to the provision of a
competent workforce for the health sector
In this assignment, I will be evaluatng the requirements of healthcare workers, in relaton to the provision of a
competent workforce for the health sector. The requirements I will be discussing are DBS, qualifcatonsn degree, skills,
work experience, attudes, registratonn license.

DBS;
Individuals will need a DBS check in order to work with vulnerable people in health and social care, to prove that they
are not a danger to other people. This is because health and social care workers are supposed to care for and look afer
their patents, which means that they cannot be a potental harm to them. Also, patents are vulnerable which means
that they are at more risk to be harmed and some cannot defend themselves. However, a person who has a DBS can stll
commit crime later on in their life. For example, something may have happened in an individual's life which caused them
to be more aggressive or to take part in illegal actvites. They may become mentally ill or may be stressed which could
lead to reckless behaviour and would make that individual a danger to others.

Qualifcatonsn degree;
Individuals will need the right qualifcatons in order to work in health and social care. The required qualifcatons are
fve GCS''s grades ACC including maths, 'nglish and sometmes science, and three ACLeevels. They will then need a degree
in the career path that they want to go into. For example, a psychologist will need a degree in psychology and a midwife
will need a degree in midwifery. However, qualifcatons may not always show that an individual is capable to go into a
career in health and social care. For example, health and social care have to be compassionate and empathetc towards
patents. An individual may not have these skills and they may not be suitable to work with vulnerable people, but they
could stll get the job due to their qualifcatons.

Skills;
Individuals will need the right skills in order to work in health and social care and to ensure that all of the patent's
holistc needs are met. 'xamples of skills are; interpersonal skills, ability to understand, empathy, compassion, social
skills, patence, and organisaton skills. However, all individuals have faws and nobody has all the required skills. For
example, a health and social care worker may be empathetc but may not have good social skills. This would be an issue
because social skills are a necessity when working in health and social care, as social care workers have to work with
patents. Therefore, all health and social care workers have their strengths and weaknesses, and even though they have
some of the required skills they may lack others.

Work experience;
Individuals will need the right work experience in order to work in health and social care. They will need to do their work
experience in a health and social care setng such as a nursery, care home, youth club, mental health wards, hospitals,
clinics, or they could work with the NHS. Work experience will usually be a requirement for the course that they are
studying, but they could also volunteer in their own tme which would look good on their CV and may make it easier to
get into their desired career. However, the work experience that the individual did may not be directly linked to the
career that they want to go into and may not give them the necessary skills and knowledge. For example, doing work
experience in a care home when you want to be a midwife would not be very useful. That work experience would stll
count and the individual would most likely stll be able to go into midwifery, however, they would not have the right
experience. This is because, a midwife works with women and babies not the elderly.
