P3 - Explain the roles and responsibilites of two overarching health organisatons
M2 - Discuss the roles of two healthcare organisatons in relaton to health service
provision
In this assignment, I will be explaining and discussing the roles and responsibilites of two overarching health
organisatons. I will be discussing the Care Quality Commission and the Nursing Midwifery Council in providing care
for Latoy a and Tom.

Care Quality Commission (CQC);
The frst overarching health organisaton I will be discussing is Care Quality Commission. The role of the CQC is to
monitor, inspect and rate health and social care services. The Care Quality Commission can provide care for Latoy a
and Tom. In Latoy a's case, their frst responsibility would be to inspect the hospital that she's stay ing at. They would
make sure that the service that the hospital provides is up to standard and that they meet the patent's needs. The
fundamental standards of care are person-centred care, dignity and respect, consent, safety , safeguarding from
abuse, food and drink, premises and equipment, complaints, good governance, stafng, ft and proper staf, duty of
candour and display of ratngs. nother responsibility of the CQC is to monitor the care provided by the hospital.
They would do this by carefully observing the staf at the organisaton and looking at whether they meet the
standards or not. Once they fnish monitoring the organisaton they would rate the hospital so that patents can see
the ratngs and decide whether they want to use the service or not. They ratngs that they use are inadequate,
requires improvement, good and outstanding. In Tom's case, the frst responsibility of the Care Quality Commission
would be to inspect the care agency that is in charge of Tom's carer, Jason. They would then monitor the care that is
provided to Tom and see if it meets all the fundamental standards. Lastly , they would rate the care agency care of
Tom, for example, district nurse carers.

Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC);
The second overarching health organisaton I will be discussing is NMC. The role of the NMC is to regulate nurses and
midwives, set standards, make sure that the skills of nurses and midwives are up to date and maintain nurses'
registratons. Examples of standards set for nurses are to promote health and prevent ill-health, assess needs and
plan care, provide and evaluate care, being a leader and working in a team, improving safety and quality of care and
coordinatng care. Examples of standards set for midwives are to listen to women and help them discuss their
anxiety , help women to think through their feelings, enable women to make informed choices on the care they
receive, encouraging women to take care of their own health and the health of their babies and communicatng with
women throughout the pregnancy , birth and the period afer birth. The Nursing Midwifery Council can provide care
for Latoy a and Tom. In Latoy a's case, the NMC would ensure that the midwives that care for her throughout her
pregnancy , during the birth and afer the birth have the right skills, are qualifed and meet all the standards. This is
extremely important because a nurse that does not meet all the standards of the NMC can cause many
complicatons. For example, if the baby has the umbilical cord wrapped around its neck a midwife who does not
meet the standards may not have the right knowledge and would not know what to do in that situaton, which could
harm the baby . Furthermore, in Tom's case a responsibility of the NMC would be to ensure that the nurses caring for
Tom meet all the standards. Tom has fresh bruising on his forearms so he would most likely get them checked out by
a nurse.
