In this task, I am going to research a variety of different types of events from which I will use
to develop a detailed plan for our business event.
Prepare a plan for a business event
One Ummah Charity – Homeless Kitchen
One Ummah is a local non-profit charitable organisation that provides global aid to those
most in need. One Ummah invites those in need and homeless every fortnight and provide
them with warm food. With their ‘Homeless Kitchen’ project, they aim to help those in need,
homeless and living below the poverty line. We could consider holding a charitable homeless
kitchen within the local community.
Salvation Army – Christmas Fayre
The Salvation Army is an international charitable organisation with over 1.5 million members
worldwide. They sought to bring salvation to the poor, destitute and hungry. Every year, the
Salvation Army holds a Christmas Fayre in which they sell jewellery, knitwear and fashion
items on stalls. The money they receive from the Christmas Fayre is used to aid in the relief
of poverty. We could consider holding a Christmas Fayre within the college in where the
money received can be given to the Salvation Army. We could also request food donations
which we could give to the Salvation Army who will provide them to those in need.
Islamic Relief – Charity Auction Fundraiser
Islamic Relief is an international humanitarian organisation that focuses on sustainable
Livelihoods, Education, Health & Nutrition, Orphans and Child Welfare, Water Sanitation &
Hygiene and Emergency Relief. Every time a disaster arises such as the earthquake in Nepal,
Islamic Relief holds fundraisers around the UK to around 500 people in each town where
they managed to raise millions to help those injured in the Nepal earthquake recover. In the
fundraisers, they hold auctions on items such as iPhone’s and hampers filled with different
items. All the money received from the auction fundraisers go towards disaster relief. We
could consider hiring a venue in the local area for a day to hold an auction fundraiser where
we place items such as signed picture frames from famous people and all the money received
from the auction goes to the Salvation Army. Holding a fundraiser could raise our potential
for how much money we receive from the event as fundraisers are appealing and everyone
will want to compete in the auction especially if it is for charity.
As a group, we have decided upon running a Christmas Fayre. This is because a Christmas
fayre event will be more appealing to individuals especially because of the current winter
season that would link to the event quite seamlessly. We decided not to choose a homeless
kitchen type of event as it would mean that we would have to pay for security at the event,
insurance and venue which would cost a lot of money and there is a larger scope for things to
go wrong. However, for the Christmas Fayre, we do not need to purchase security for the
event as the venue would have its own security. We would also have insurance covering us
from Macmillan Academy and wouldn’t need to purchase any. Because we wouldn’t have to
pay for security or insurance in doing a Christmas Fayre, we have the freedom to focus
spending on the resources inside of the event and won’t have big budget restrictions put in
place. We didn’t choose to do a fundraiser because of time constrictions but mainly because
of the costs that come with. For instance, booking a hall for the venue to be in would cost a
