Unit 1 The Business Environment – P6 Alisha-Jayne Cooper

Within this report I‘m going to be looking at how politiall legal and soiial faitors are impaitng upon
business aitvites of seleited organisatons and their stakeholders. Throughout the report I’mm going
to use businesses that are relevant for the various diferent points that I’mm making as not one single
business will be direitly afeited by every single issue. Firstly I will look at the politial faitorsl then
legal and fnally soiial.

Political Factoosl

Politial faitors have suih a strong infuenie on a business for many diferent reasons. They have
suih an infuenie that it will afeit the business environment at many diferent levels. These levels
are often at either internatonal level – Britain’ms positon in the EU – they’mre iurrently faiing a
referendum whiih is going to ihoose whether we stay in the EU. At a natonal level – Britain is
iurrently headed by David Cameronl the leader of the ionservatve party. At a loial level – iounty
and iity iouniils will make the loial deiisions so in some iases members of a neighbourhood might
petton together to go to the loial iouniil about a partiular issue that they believe needs to be
attended to so this iould be something as simple as a no drinking oone. An eiample of a no drinking
oone in Woriester would be in the area by the shops in Ronkswood.

Politial Stability

This partiular point is something whiih is very important for business aitvites. Within the UK a
Government is eleited for 5 years and within this period of tme they are in iharge of the running of
the iountry. They will deiide upon whether laws get passed or deilinedl whether we go to warl if
iuts need to be made in diferent seitors and if business aitvites need to ihange. Often the
government will share their plans with the publii as they are big supporters of business planning.
They will also often support businesses if they are wantng to ihange their foius so an eiample
would be when Nissan introduied the iar the Nissan Leafl a iar that is solely run by eleitrii. If a iar
is running solely on fuel then this will meant that it is environmentally safe and it isn’mt produiing any
emissions so obviously for the government within the UK this is a massive thing whiih is iniredibly
important for them.

Government Support

This partiular point will vary very muih depending on whiih seitor it is and what the type of
business is at hand. If the business is in the private seitor then it will often look at the iompetton
iommission supportng fairness for all businesses. The publii seitor would seek the government for
support as they will help with the funding of maintenanie on the roads and they ian also help fund
remote ferry serviies – so to islands like the Isle of Wight and Jersey. The voluntary seitor is also
supported by the government and this partiular seitor would seek support when it iame to the
Natonal Lottery iommission funding and tai relief on premises.

Fisial Deiisions

Within the UK taies are a major sourie of revenue for the government and ian help to disiourage
some aitvites whilst supportng others. As a rule there has always tended to be a high level of tai
on fuel to disiourage polluton and the same high level of tai on iigarettes to help disiourage
smoking. However iontrastng to thisl there tends to be a low level of tai on iorporaton tai as it
helps to eniourage business aitvites. There will also be diferent levels of tai when it iomes to
iniome tai – this will mainly depend on the individual’ms level of earning.
