M2 - Compare the effectiveness of different teams.

In this task I will be comparing my own experience of two different type of teams I
have been working with, explaining all the good and bad situations I have been
involved in, I will also be mentioning which team leadership style used for each and
which team was better.

Teams I have been involved in:

For my first team I had to work with as a group was with my college classmates, as
we were put got together by our teacher to complete a specific task together as it
was part of our coursework. The team had a team leader who had the role to control
the team also had to set aims and objectives, such as try to achieve distinction for
the task, that the group would have to achieve and report back. But, the team leader
was very shy and quiet which caused problems as she did speak much so the lack of
leadership skills used did have issues between the other team members as well. As
our team had no strong confident leader, the team then took matters into their own
hands and chose which options to carry out that will be easy to complete. This then
caused conflicts within the group as we all came to some disagreements between
each team member, and we only managed to achieve a pass as the work was not up
to high standards.

For my second team I was involved in a school football team. The team had a team
leader who is also the team’s captain. This team leader actually managed to use his
proper leadership skills as he set a simple aim to play well as a team and win. For
the first half we were losing so he managed to study the team’s weakness, brought
the team together and told each individual where to make improvements, also
rotating the formation that we usually play better in, all the changes were made in
order for us to win the game. The other team players felt very motivated and at the
end our team managed to play even better and won the game, which shows how the
team leader made us achieve the team’s aims.

Comparison and commentary on how one team has been better than the other:

I personally think that the football team that I was in was so much better and
effective than the team with the college classmates, this is because the football team
leader managed to identify the team’s aims and objectives which gave the team
members a clear insight of being successful as this team was more composed and
ready for any tasks that would have been set to us. This leader has clearly took this
role more than once meaning that he has more skills and experience as the other
leader was just elected by the teacher to control the team, which wasn’t done
properly. This can link back to Meredith Belbin’s theory as the football team
managed to identify which role out of the eight was best suited for their personality,
