Unit RCC35

As discussed in our teaching session today:

This unit is all about risk management within residential childcare settings.

This is a performance and knowledge unit and so therefore in our teaching session we discussed the following:

 Understand requirements for health, safety and risk management in residential childcare settings
for children and young people. You have completed this already so we do not have to cover this
today.
 In addition, I would like you to complete part 1 of the ERR workbook which links to H&S legislation
as discussed.
 Be able to support children and young people to manage risk.
 Be able to manage risks to health, safety and security.
 Understand how to respond to accidents, incidents, emergencies and illness in work settings and
off-site visits.

Remember to link the policies and procedures of your workplace to legislation and your practice.

You will find the following link informative when researching legislation:

http://www.hse.gov.uk/

1.1. Summarise key points of the legislation framework for health, safety and risk management in residential
care settings for children and young people.

and adhered to and that risk assessments are carried out appropriately in order to maintain the health and
safety of children and young people and all staff and visitors to the workplace.

1.2. Explain how current health and safety legislation policies and procedures are implemented in the work
setting

Current health and safety legislation is implemented into our policies and procedures and our training plans
which are reviewed and updated regularly. We also carry out daily and weekly checks as well as monthly audits
to ensure that health and safety is maintained at all times. (GHS 04.00 Policy – Health and Safety) (attached)

1.3. Explain how health and safety is monitored ad maintained in the work setting

These are monitored through daily checks such as House Physical Checks and weekly checks such as building
