UNIT 5

1. Explain the key features of effective partnership working. Partnership working has many
benefits. A true partnership empowers the service user, their carers and other
professionals. A true partnership acknowledges that no one has full control in every
situation and some are more independent than others, and also that some can exert
more power and influence. The collaboration between health and social care services
lead to many White Papers in the late 1970’s detailing various proposals on quality and
partnership. The pressure was on services to support well-being rather than focusing on
illness and dependence, leading to person-centred care. A partnership has a
responsibility to cooperate in applying mutually agreed goals with the same aims and
objectives. This collaboration of services provides us with a multitude of information
sharing, as well as advice and support. With partnership working we can combine
sometimes limited resources to reach a greater number of people with better services.
This will enhance the efficiency and quality of service provision

2. Why is it important to work in partnership with colleagues, other professionals and
others? Working in partnership with colleagues is important because it increases the
chance of a better outcome by working together, rather than working alone. As a Team
Leader, it is important for me to encourage working together and the importance of
effective team-working. I have a responsibility to maintain effective team-working in
order to achieve the best outcome for the individuals in our care. It is important that we
develop our processes effectively and to continually monitor and audit these processes
to maintain efficiency and to agree on our common objectives and implement them
appropriately. These processes need to be evaluated constantly using team meetings
and supervisions to monitor their progress. Good team-working is a good working
partnership and has an impact on our service delivery. Managing conflicts effectively,
using skill-matching techniques and promoting progress and development within your
team is imperative to a good working partnership. Other professionals may include
health specialists such as doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, advocate services,
health centres, hospitals, psychologists, psychiatrists, managers, community services
etc. individual's’ needs cannot always be met by one person or service alone, and it is
often the case that a shared service with the same goals can achieve much more to
meet the needs of an individual. It is this collaboration of services that provides a good
partnership working structure which enhances the wellbeing of our service users. Others
could include specialists such as therapists, activity groups and support groups,
government officials and colleges and we must analyse the importance of working in
partnership with others and what are the benefits for the individual. We need to develop
procedures for working effectively in partnership with agreed common objectives and
goals, ensuring that these are within the limits of our own role and responsibilities, and
also to monitor and evaluate constantly to ensure we maintain good practice. Also,
making sure that we deal with any concerns or conflicts effectively.
