Unit 1
Assignment 1.1 Attributes In a Workplace

General Attributes

Creativity

In almost all areas of work creativity is needed, whether it is an artistic view or ways of dreaming up different
ideas and thinking outside of the box. Mainly creativity involves in thoughts from the individual to create
pieces of art, for this to happen the minds of these individuals need to have some space to allow these creative
ideas flow. This attribute is valued well within all businesses because creative minds can give higher quality of
work or a frame of mind to work more efficiently and effectively. In creativity, designers or artists will work
side-by-side in a casual environment because they would need to be themselves and keep their minds
motivated to generate ideas. The use of a creativity attribute within an IT industry can be effectively used for
example, the company’s website. With a well-presented website can be very useful for bringing customers or
viewers to navigate around the website due to its aesthetics.

Numeracy

Statistically there is little occupancy that requires a degree of a high level mathematical skill. However in every
job must require a some sort of mathematical skill because numerical characters are always used in the field of
work; calculations on the other hand will need to be accurate. What values mostly is putting the calculations to
the test to troubleshoot bugs or problems either in a system, database or spread sheet. This is what the
employer needs from their employees in order to keep either the business running or to solve any problems
that occur within a system that could potentially harm the business itself. For example within an industry such
as banking, there are many calculations and numbers involved that will benefit the industry if this attribute
was used.

, Industry Specific Attributes

Good working procedure

One part of the attribute that is valued amongst most employers across the country is when you become
unwell; usually you will need to stay of work to get ‘well’. If you come into work with an illness or a virus as
such then it’s likely you’ll pass it onto to other colleagues around the office. Another part of the good working
procedure is following the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974). This act requires every member of staff to
look after themselves with care as well as others depending on what situation has occurred.

Technical Knowledge

Usually technical knowledge is often known as computational skills, this can list knowledgeable skills with
hardware and software for a computer. Within an IT based organisation technical knowledge needs to be used
to tackle any problem that incurs during working hours. Technical support will have to have a wide range of
technical skills to solve any problematic scenarios involved with any typical hardware or software. For example,
within a workplace, there is a fault in the office with around 20 computers. A worker would need the technical
knowledge to solve what the problem is so everyone can continue on working.

4

, Attitudes Based Attributes

Problem Solving

What values to the employer in terms of problem solving involves with completing tasks that is fairly difficult
and would require more than one attempt to tackle. Some individuals can see the problem very quickly
whereas others may find it difficult to spot the problem. The biggest value to problem solving is having an
optimistic attitude with an open mind, able to think out of the box to solve any problems. For example using
this as a mind-set in an office based environment, a printer has broken down and would need to be fixed. If a
worker has the trait of problem solving then he/she would be able to solve down to the point where the
problem can be fixed and the printer works again.

Independence

What most employers’ values from their employees is the work of independence and their ability to work
without being dependant on what they need to do next. Most of the time employees who are able to work
independently will need to check other colleagues first before making further steps in what is normally done.
This is where the line of common sense falls into place. Within an organisation every worker will need to have
independence to finish the work they are set, being able to be independent in the work he/she do are able to
focus on what they are doing without being distracted and focus along what needs to be done as a priority.
