Romeo as LOVE SICK:
 P1
o Stands beneath Juliet’s balcony in the Capulet orchard.
o Use of metaphors/ celestial imagery- “what light through yonder
window breaks?... Juliet Is the sun”
o Infatuated… Obsessed…. Enamoured
o Willing to risk his life and wellbeing for her.

 P2
o Romeo becomes excited to see Juliet: displaying his youthful,
childish and taciturn emotions.
o Use of exclamatory sentence- “it is my lady, o, it is my love!”
o R and J have only had a brief meeting yet he believes her to be his
rightful lover
o Context to importance of fate and destiny
o Shakespeare intends to display R foolishness as he’s only a
teenager who is experiencing a surge of turbulent and dramatic
emotions.

 P3
o Romeo sees Juliet as a symbol of light and hope for his life- a way to
uplift his emotions after his heartbreak over Rosaline
o Hyperbolic language- “O she doth teach the torches to burn
bright.”
o Emphasises the enigmatic state of R- makes the audience think his
immense sorrow over his unrequited love was just immature and
fake.

 P4
o Violence had taken over Romeos life but by the end of the play he
had lost Juliet and felt destroyed and smothered with melancholy.
o Emotive language- “here lies Juliet, and her beauty makes this
vault a feasting presence full of light.”
o The fact that he was blinded with love and admiration caused this
relationship to become self-destructive and impulsive- commits
suicide.
