Explain the pre-planning, execution and outcomes of searching including any constraints that may
apply.
Pre-planning
Pre- planning for the searching involved separating into different search teams and designating
search commanders for the search. By doing this we had different search teams with leaders and we
could search more than one thing e.g. 2 vehicles not just 1. We also had a rough design for the room
layout we would use for the search to prevent possible injuries and limit the possibility of people
being searched hiding objects or escaping.
Searching individuals
For searching individuals we first set-up the room laid out as we had intended however there flaws
noted in the design such as limiting the room of the searchers and the close proximity of our search
lanes. The two teams we had were assigned to being either searchers or observers for those
searchers. There were 2 search commanders who would observe both the observers and searchers
too. The searchers found items on the individuals being searched like drugs, blades and intelligence.
However things were missed mainly hidden in bags, hair and around the waist. Things like
intelligence, wire and clips with ammunition in. The searchers provided the correct information when
questioned as to their reasoning behind the searchers and searched appropriately the individuals.
Searching vehicles
We also searched 2 vehicles 1 car and 1 mini-bus. We split into 2 teams each with separate search
commander and each team searched a vehicle 1 doing the car, 1 doing the mini-bus. We then
swapped and searched the other vehicle. The first search of both the car and the mini-bus went well
however things were missed. The car still had a clip of ammunition hidden and the mini-bus drugs.
The second search went well for the mini-bus and nothing was missed but the team searching the
car couldn`t find anything and missed 3 items.
Constraints
There were few constraints in place during the searches that should be noted. Number 1 for the
vehicles we were told that nothing was hidden in the boot, wheels, wheel covers or the hood.
Nothing was hidden underneath the vehicles either. There was for the searching of individuals a limit
to the space that could be used and the space that could be used was being utilised, this in part
explains why the room layout ended up constraining the amount of space searchers had.
