sportsmanship and standards for fair play, and because of them we have the Olympic games
today

mind and body in harmony with each other. Embracers of the Greek Ideal( man of
action/wisdom). Society reflected dual emphasis on intelligence and physical. The education
system was mainly for upper class boys who attended private schools (music, literature,
philosophy, gymnastics, wrestliong etc)

Gymnasiums - ANSAnything physical was called "gymnastics" ex. wrestling, jumping. This is a
place where they trained. Public training facility; contained baths, a covered running track called
the dromos, and an open space for practicing activities; comes from gymno: meaning naked

communication, religion. (776BC-393AD), Held every 4 years for 1200 years, late summer, in
Olympia

considered a city, but it was a religious sanctuary/holy place. They would send out messengers
