Unit 45 independent learning in health and social care
Assignment 4 planning and managing your own learning.
In my essay I am going to describe and evaluate the management of my own study (p4)
Describe my learning styles preferences and objectives for future study (P5)
Devise a person development plan for future learning and study time (M3)
Evaluate the value of the personal development plan for own learning and management of own
study. (D2)
I manage my own study whilst doing my Health and Social Care course at the South West College. In
order to study and achieve to the best of my ability I ensure that I write down in my homework diary
what needs to be completed and what needs to be focused on. When I have an assignment due I
usually prioritise my study time on that particular assignment to make sure that I have put my full
effort into it and don’t end up ‘cramming’ the night before the assignment is due which can be a
very stressful thing for a student to do. I like to use my mobile phone to record important dates of
when assignments are due in as I use my phone quite a lot so it is a good place for me to put
important information such as that because then I know I will definally see it. I know that when I
come home from college I like to study in my bedroom using my computer- I arrive home from
college around 5pm so I like to relax when I come home for an hour or around that so I prefer to
study in the late evening time as there is less distractions for me when I study at this time the less
distractions around me like family at dinner time or other children in my house mean that I am able
to concentrate fully on what I need to do that night- whenever I study I like to take regular breaks to
clear my mind and not stress myself out with the work that needs done.
I am going to write about my learning style preferences and my objectives for my future study. I took
a quiz on line that shows me my learning style.
People learn in different ways and there is three different types of learning styles that people can be
and can learn the best from. A person can be a; visual, auditory or kinaesthetic learner. Within a
classroom it is important that a wide variety of teaching methods are used to ensure that every
student can learn equally.
Visual learners like to learn by visually seeing things like PowerPoints, diagrams or word documents.
Auditory learners prefer to listen to the work and like to hear a person talking and telling the
important information. Kinaesthetic learners on the other hand like to physically be hands on and do
the thing, they are the ones in a classroom who would usually volunteer first to do something infront
of their classmates as they would see it as a beneficial way for them to learn and take in important
information.
I went on line and decided to take a learning style quiz on the website www.educationplanner.org
after taking the quiz I was told that I was an auditory and tactile learner. I have put a print screen of
my results below.
