Unit 7 – Mobile Apps Development – Assignment 1
Introduction:
In this assignment, I will be examining and being able to investigate mobile apps and devices with
introducing an appreciation of the range of device and functionality available. Furthermore, I will
also consider how mobile applications work, why they are developed, similarities and differences
between each device and the implication of creating and using software on mobile device.
Therefore, to develop high quality mobile applications, I would need to consider how they are
designed to specifically run on every single mobile device and ensure that applications run well
without any problems occurring.
General purpose of three mobile applications:
The main purpose of apps such as native, web based, or hybrid is to ensure best performance for a
specific mobile operating system.
Context of mobile applications:
Locale – A locale application is designed to provide geographical information based on users current
location such as maps m
Utility – A utility application is provided to help configure devices such as file manager and backup
tools to organise folders and files in a location that will help users find data. The reason why there
are backup tools is to help users to store their files in a different location such as cloud or in their
USB for to prevent data loss.
Productivity suites – A Productivity suites application gives office-style functionalities for users to
produce information. An example of this is Microsoft office where they can write letters or reports
using word document, creating presentations using PowerPoint and being able to calculate project
calculate using Microsoft Excel.
Immersive full screen – An immersive full screen application consists of using screen display
exclusively to fully draw users into the experience. An example of this are games such as temple run,
angry birds and fruit ninja. In addition, these games will influence users and feel enjoyed while
playing.
Lifestyle – Lifestyle applications are designed to enrich user’s life with guiding them options of life-
related varieties users can install. There are examples of these and they are healthy recipes, DIY,
interior design, gardening and travel. These examples are all lifestyle applications to support users
providing step by step visual instructions and links to commercial websites.

Social – Social applications are designed to connect users to other people to form a communication
and share topics, events, pictures, videos and other ideas. An example of social-related application is
Facebook or WhatsApp.
Entertainment – Entertainment applications enable users to enjoy media content which provides
some popular examples such as music players (Spotify), video streaming (Netflix), podcast (Sound
Cloud) and e-book readers (Kindle).
Widgets – Widget applications provides users to access quickly to live data or settings such as quick
device settings, search facilities and calendar to arrange appointments. Additionally, the widgets
application takes very little of their mobile device’s screen display.
Locale – Google Maps
App information: This application is a web mapping service controlled by Google and it offers
many services such satellite view modes, street views, real time traffic conditions and being able to
plan routes by foot, bicycle, car, public transport.
App type: The type of this application is native because it is available in almost all platforms
(Android, IOS) with compatibility on every smart device. Also, the application can provide enormous
functionality to enable availability and these could be location, microphone, camera and others. This
would potentially help users to use the app easily when giving permission to these for better
experience.
