As an assistant coach I have been asked by the Head Coach to see why there has been a drop in
performance and I am trying to establish which area could be improved. To maintain a high level of
performance within rugby I should also identify the strengths of the performance and inform the
Head Coach of areas which can be improved.
Week 1:
This week I have trained 4 times on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. I have also played 1
game this week as well. On the Monday and Tuesday, we focused on are attack and we have been
focusing on what moves to use in certain areas of the pitch. From this I have found that one of my
weaknesses is remembering all the moves because in the training sessions I sometimes get confused
and get the moves muddled up. On Wednesday I played a game for college, I noticed another
weakness in my game was my kicking out of hand because it wasn’t very accurate and everytime I
kicked it out of hand it went straight down the winger or full back throat. But one of my strengths
from this game was my passing because it was very accurate and sharp. Then on Thursday I had
Colts training and we didnt really focused on anything we just played a game all session, so it was
nothing serious at all. On Friday I took part in college training and we focused on defence I noticed
that one of my strengths was my one on one tackling as I rarely missed a tackle.
Week 2:
During this week I only trained 3 times on Monday Tuesday and Friday. Also I played 1 game for
Manchester Colts. I didnt train on Thursday due to me being ill. In Monday session we focused on
attack again and it was better than the previous week as I am starting to remember the moves now.
On Tuesday we focused on defence and we was looking around the breakdown area and also are
spacing in defensive. From that session on Tuesday I noticed that one of my strength was my
jackaling as I turned over a lot of balls, but I noticed one of my weaknesses in defensive was I kept
biting in when a team was attacking instead of just going soft. Then on Friday we focused on Kicking
and catching balls and I noticed that another weaknesses of mine is catching high balls. I then played
a game on Saturday for Manchester Colts and one of my strengths from that game was my goal
kicking as I didn’t miss one kick in that game.
Week 3:
This week I had 4 training sessions this week on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and also
played in 1 game on Saturday for my Colts team again. This week in training we focused on passing
and I noticed that my passing off my left hand was very poor than what it usually is so this was one
of my weaknesses this week. I had a game on Saturday and I noticed that one of my strengths was
my ability to break through tackles, this is a positive because this shows I am a strong runner.
